Hi, I am Shai!

I discovered baking a lot later in life. I wish I could tell you about all the little stories as a little kid where I baked cookies and cupcakes for bake sales for my neighbourhood! I wish I could tell you I had a secret family receipe that was passed onto to me by my grammy!

I don’t. We didn’t really have a working oven in our home till the age of 17…and when I discovered what this magical oven could do, my world changed! COMPLETELY.

What started as hobby baking after devouring all the treats my sister in law used to make, I started to learn and discover more. I fell in love more. Every day. Every month, Every year.

When you are not handed something so directly, you tend to work a bit harder because you have a lot more to prove and a lot more to learn…and I did and I have.

My world of baking is about connection. Connecting with people who are celebrating their loved ones. I love celebrating people and baking allows me to do just that.

When you reach out to Sweet&Shy, I do a little dance – because it means, I get to make one more cake, and I get to hear about one more story. My baking world is filled with stories of you, your loved ones and it absolutely is the one thing that continues to fulfill me. It’s the stories that truly warm the heart.

I have also had the pleasure of working with some wonderful bakeries in the city, including Le Dolci, Teeny Tiny Bakery, Shockingly Healthy and more. This has allowed me to discover my own set of rules and values that I stand by at Sweet&Shy.

I am a supporter of local organizations such as Sistering, Good Foot Delivery and always find room for my baking to support initiatives by these wonderful organizations. It is my little way of giving back. I had had the pleasure of being a part of the Chocolate Chip Cookie off 2017 and 2018, ranking top 5 in 2017 with a total of $100,000 were raised towards charity.
